The drive behind Pansy
In the summer of 2012, friends Laura Schoorl and Rachel Corry were driving from San Francisco to Santa Barbara for dinner with Rachel’s parents.
They had both been dreaming of the ideal underwear: plain, comfortable organic cotton, without logos or synthetic fabrics, made locally. It was a pipe dream of sorts, and they decided to pursue it right away.

Even the thread and the woven twill tags are organic cotton. We believe in complete transparency — ask us anything about how our underwear is made.
It took a lot of conviction. Getting undies to fit all bodies is a challenge; finding the few remaining sources of US‑grown organic cotton felt nearly impossible; even our friends doubted that folks would pay more for organic underwear. But when you let your ideals lead you, I believe you can change people, patterns, and what is possible.
Within a few years there were many other organic underwear brands competing for space — which is great — and thanks to Laura’s hard work, Pansy had so many new pieces: bras, loungewear, socks. Laura has used Pansy to set a new standard of inclusivity in sizing and in photoshoots, and that has had a far-reaching influence. She trusts the visions of young photographers, and the results are always astounding in their beauty and creativity: so many images of women and girls being themselves.
